The Local Public Services SIG (LPS SIG) was formed in 2010 as a merger from the existing Local Government, Health and Emergency Planning SIG. As services and data are increasingly shared across Local Strategic Partnerships,GI acts as an enabler in transforming services by providing customer insight and defining place. The partnership approach to provide shared services locally is reflected in this local public services SIG. The SIG provides a forum to exchange ideas, best practice and promote and develop solutions for making better use of GI across public service providers in an effort to deliver benefits to local citizens and businesses
The Local Public Services Special Interest Group aims to
share knowledge, expertise and encourage best practice in the use of GI by local public service delivery organisations
raise awareness and foster the wider use of GI by public service providers
in conjunction with the AGI promote the use of and influence the opening up of GI to Citizens and Business for reuse
promote and develop innovative use of GI to deliver services locally
inform and encourage members to partake in consultations, GI initiatives and policy influencing that affect the sector
encourage AGI membership by public service providers to take advantage of the AGI national networking facilities and other membership benefits
The outcome of the LPS SIG will rely on and be shaped by voluntary contributions and enthusiasm of its members. As this is a new SIG, we encourage membership from within the AGI and outside in particular from organisations that deliver local public services including local and regional government, health agencies, emergency services, voluntary sector, etc.
